Tri = Three; Kona = angle; Asana = Posture

Legs are wide. Front foot is pointed straight to the front of the mat. Back foot is placed at a 450 angle with the arch of the back foot in line with the heel of the front foot. The back hip is shifted slightly forward. Arms are shoulder height, fingertips pointing away from each other. The front arm reaches as far forward as possible while the torso is hinged on the front hip. Both sides of the torso are lowered evenly. Front hand rests on the shin. Chest is rotated open. Shoulder blades are down and back. Front of the hips is open.

Benefits of the posture:

  • aligns legs, hips and arms
  • tractions the spine and creates gentle rotation from a lengthened position.
  • Helps create fuller breathing
