Mala = Garland, necklace; Asana = Posture

Feet are positioned at the edges of the mat and pointed forward at a 450 angle. Knees are bent as the tailbone is drawn straight down towards the earth. Low abdomen is drawn into the spine as the spine lengthens. Hands are drawn together at heart center with the upper arms resting between the knees. Shoulders are drawn down and away from the ears. Heels are flat on the mat. Gaze is forward and the chin is parallel to the earth.

Benefits of the posture:

  • strong pelvic stabilizer that builds strength in the legs, feet, and calves and is excellent for low back pain
  • good for opening the hips and groin
  • massages all of the abdominal and reproductive organs
  • good for menstrual cramps
