SAVASANA (CORPSE)

Sava = Corpse; Asana = Posture

From a supine position, arms are relaxed and shoulders move down and away from the ears. Shoulder blades are tucked under and spread apart, creating space in the arm pits. Palm rest facing up. Legs lengthen and feet rest naturally out to the sides. Neck is lengthened and softened and the weight of the head is completely relaxed into the earth. Eyes are closed. Forehead is released, inner ears relax, inner mouth softens and the tongue is completely relaxed. Spine is softened as the vertebrae are released to the earth one at a time. Ribs also soften allowing them to melt out and down into the support of the earth. The body comes into complete stillness as muscles release away from bones and joints open.
