Shalabha = Locust; Asana = Posture

Abdomen rests on the floor, legs are drawn together and all muscles of the legs are fully engaged. Forehead rests on the floor. Hands are interlaced behind the back. Shoulders are relaxed away from the ears and shoulder blades are drawn down and back. The pelvis remains square, level and grounded as the legs are lifted off of the mat. Torso and arms lift and reach towards the sky. Body remains firm, level and stable. Pubic bones press into the earth.

Benefits of the posture:

  • strengthens the back of the body
  • exercises the heart and the circulatory system, which will lower blood pressure with regular practice
  • massages abdominal organs, kidneys, and adrenal glands
