Garbha = Embryo, fetus; Asana = Posture

Toes touch, knees are spread to the edge of the mat. The pelvis is pressed back toward the heels while the spine is lengthened forward. Torso rests on the thighs. Forehead rests on the mat. Arms are forward, palms resting face down on the mat or arms stretched backward, palms face up. The latter arm variation may be referred to as embryo pose while the former arm variation may be referred to as devotional pose.

Benefits of the posture:

  • massages the abdominal organs, kidneys and adrenal glands
  • good for cramps or constipation
  • facilitates forward flexion in the spine, hips and knees
  • heals, relaxes and rejuvenates the entire body
